Hokushima Yoga

More by Xavier de Richemont

In the exhibit hall there are 3 walls, 30 feet high spanning 200 feet of projection space. The film is 12ish minutes from start to finish. Xavier de Richemont is the creator of this light-paint-montage-collage-theatre masterpiece. Tomorrow, Saturday, January 19, at 11:15am I am teaching a yoga class in the exhibit hall as the film runs for the duration of the yoga class. The experience is as much or more about observing the film-art and allowing the thoughts it provokes, while moving our bodies mindfully and breathing more consciously becomes the background. All levels are welcome and encouraged. Be inspired and moved by art. Experience yoga as never before.

This is the exhibit’s international debut and will soon be moving on. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience it.

Check out this video clip of the film. The 2-d clip is very good but the comparison to the full space is immeasurable.

Next New Beginner Series starts Jan. 3, 2012.  Sign-up at yogabirds.com for this 4-week series dedicated to learning about the practice of yoga in a fun, supportive environment, in which people can find comfort in their body. We’ll work on good alignment principles, learn some breathing and meditation techniques, and begin to explore new postures from the ground up. What’s nice about the series is that it is a great way to commit to practicing and learning, which can be hard if you are just starting out. It also always feels good to be in a room with other people around your same level and feel the support and encouragement of each other. Due to the progressive learning nature of the series, there are no drop-ins admitted. 4 sessions over 4 weeks. $35

Slow Flow To Explore The Inner Body

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras define pratyahara as the state and practice of encouraging the senses to draw within, promoting a continuous inward flow of consciousness. This quality or attitude of pratyahara transforms the vigorous physical practice of Hatha Flow into an internalized moving meditation. Melanie Buffett, RYT will lead this slow flowing class. It will begin with music and gradually move toward silence and darkness, allowing you to go deeper and take your practice inward. Explore your practice on a more sublime, subtle level. Seasoned Beginner/Intermediate Level. Minimum of 3 months yoga practice required to attend. 2 HOURS $20 pre-register. $25 day of. Workshops are non-refundable.

In this mini-workshop, we will move through poses (both active and restorative) with our breath to relieve the physical and mental demands of your body during this exciting phase of life. We will work to increase flexibility, strength, and energy, while also developing concentration and focus that is helpful during labor.
