Yoga 101

Yoga 101 is a 2.5 hour Saturday afternoon workshop. This workshop will demystify yoga for the new student. Students will learn building blocks for practicing 30 essential yoga poses. Time is also devoted to introducing basic yogic breathing with awareness. This workshop prepares new students for flowing and faster paced classes. Also beneficial to give deeper insight of alignment in an already established practice. Participants must be able to move up and down from the floor to standing without assistance. BEGINNER LEVEL. 2.5 HRS. Registration available online.

Cat McCarthy Returns to Yoga Birds

Catherine McCarthy is a Certified Anusara Yoga® Instructor who balances her time between her hometown of New Orleans and New York City. Her love of yoga and her playful approach makes learning accessible and fun for all. Through the transformative and therapeutic technology of Anusara Yoga, Catherine encourages students to radically affirm their vast potential with strong bodies, open hearts and curious minds. Inspired daily by her students and over the years by her teachers Anusara Yoga founder John Friend, Amy Ippoliti, Elena Brower, and Rajanaka philosophy scholar Dr. Douglas Brooks, Catherine is thrilled to share all that she has learned both on and off the mat.

Scotta Brady

Scotta Brady, E-RYT 500 is a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher who began her formal yoga studies in 1996 after graduating from Auburn University with a B.A. in Philosophy. She is the owner and lead teacher at Butterfly Yoga in Jackson, Mississippi.  Blessed with the opportunity to study with many inspiring teachers around the world, she is full of immense gratitude for and admiration of each one. She is especially grateful to Anusara Yoga founder John Friend, who has been the greatest influence on her personal transformation and transition from law school student to full-time yoga student and teacher. Upon meeting John in 1999, Scotta dedicated herself to studying yoga and has been teaching yoga in service to the Mississippi community and beyond since 2000.

Slow Flow To Explore The Inner Body

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras define pratyahara as the state and practice of encouraging the senses to draw within, promoting a continuous inward flow of consciousness. This quality or attitude of pratyahara transforms the vigorous physical practice of Hatha Flow into an internalized moving meditation. Melanie Buffett, RYT will lead this slow flowing class. It will begin with music and gradually move toward silence and darkness, allowing you to go deeper and take your practice inward. Explore your practice on a more sublime, subtle level. Yoga for Weight Loss Workshop

Yoga unifies body, mind, heart, and spirit. The habits and behaviors that contribute to unhealthy or unnatural excess weight gain usually signify a missing link in the body, mind, heart, spirit connection.

In this 3-hour workshop, Melanie Buffett shares her personal journey of losing  80 lbs and maintaining that weight loss (for over 13 years). If permanent weight loss is your goal, learn how one woman did it by consistently applying principles of meditation, breath work, physical yoga practice, and conscious eating in a balanced, healthy, ‘yogic’ way to her daily life.

Melanie leads an inspirational and informational practice that incorporates humor with the serious business of achieving and maintaining healthy weight once and for all. Some experience or knowledge of yoga practice is recommended. Participants must be able to sit on the floor and stand up from the floor without assistance. Yoga mats and props provided.

Yoga 201 Workshop

Melanie Buffett’s Yoga 201 explores more advanced yoga poses and yoga pose flows with attention to proper form and alignment for maximum safety and benefit. Students should be prepared to work the prepartory poses leading up to handstands at the wall, backbends with straight arms, and arm balance poses. Minimum of 3 months of regular yoga practice is a requirement to attend. 3 HRS. $30 pre-registration. $35 day of. Workshops are non-refundable.

Inversions and Backbends For Seasoned Beginners

This workshop is for anyone who would like to learn the basics of backbends and inversions. Join Melanie Buffett, RYT as she guides you through a sequence designed to help you become stronger and more flexible so you can practice these poses with confidence and enjoy a whole new perspective in your practice. Students should be prepared to go upside down and press up into a full backbend with help and support. Seasoned Beginner/Intermediate Level. Pre-Natal Yoga Workshop

A safe and effective pre-natal yoga practice can help women prepare for the demands of pregnancy, labor, birth, and motherhood. In this mini-workshop, we will move through poses (both active and restorative) with our breath to relieve the physical and mental demands of your body during this exciting phase of life. We will work to increase flexibility, strength, and energy, while also developing concentration and focus that is helpful during labor.

Meredith Montgomery (a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher since 2004), who is expecting her first baby on August 1st, will teach this class. It is open to women in all stages of pregnancy, as well as to those that just want to learn more about pre-natal yoga!
